CLUBS AT PENCADER CHARTER

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer your time, please contact the teacher in charge of the club directly.

Student Council: Mr. Quimby (steve.quimby@pencadercharter.org) - The student council will be taking an active role in organizing the student body to help improve both the school and local community. Students will be involved in organizing and leading activities to raise funds for and awareness of important issues. We will be spending our first couple of meeting deciding what issues will be our focus for the upcoming year. Our website is studentcouncil.pencadercharter.org.

Music Technology: Mr. Gray (paul.gray@pencadercharter.org) - Students in this club will be using synthesizers and computers to create their own music. Sequencing, digital audio and notating music will be explored as students will learn how music and technology are used together. Eventually, students will have their own CDs with one or two songs on them. They will also have their own printed music which will look just as good as a professional printed score.

School Newspaper: Mrs. Ryan (ann.marie.ryan@pencadercharter.org) - It is the intention of the staff of our new Titan Times to publish a newspaper every other month beginning at the end of October. The various editors will cover sports, a “Spotlight on You” section, the news of the other clubs, surveys, a “Joke and Puzzle Corner” and a UGOK (useless gems of knowledge). We hope to have the publishing provided by a professional printer, but that has not been confirmed yet. The October issue will have a section on "meet the teachers." One reporter is doing an article on Driver's Ed in this issue as well.

Spanish Club: Mrs. Green (natalie.green@pencadercharter.org) – This is an opportunity for students of Spanish to further their knowledge of the culture and traditions of the Spanish-speaking world. We will be doing community service, studying the cultures of various Spanish-speaking countries, celebrating various holidays, all while practicing the Spanish language. Based upon student interest, we will have movie days, fiestas, bailes (dances), fund raisers, and study days. And, we are going to Spain next summer! Our website is spanishclub.pencadercharter.org.

Mock Trial: Mr. Arzinger (ray.arzinger@pencadercharter.org) & Mr. Jones (dave.jones@pencadercharter.org) - This national competition runs from December through mid February. The contest involves each school presenting in a clear and compelling manner the facts for the Prosecution & Defense. There are 3 attorneys and 3 witnesses for each side. The actual competition against other schools is held in the State Courthouse in mid February. Each school goes up against 3 other schools. Eventually the top 4 scoring schools are pitted against each other with a state champion emerging. That team goes to the national contest in May. Mock Trial teaches organizational, communication and presentation skills. Practice will be held 2 to 4 days a week after school with Lawyers from the U S Attorney's office assisting the team in developing their arguments and honing their presentation skills.
