Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Welcome to what will be another great year here at Pencader Charter. Hopefully you have all had an amazing summer and are ready and eager to take your education to the next level. As your College Placement Coordinator, I will be responsible for assisting you in figuring out what you want to do after your education at Pencader has been completed. This includes helping you with PSAT/SAT registration and preparation, making sure you are on the right path to go to college, making sure you have taken the appropriate classes in order for you to enter the major you want to pursue, and assisting you with application and scholarship information.
The PSAT is a standardized test which provides students with firsthand practice for the SAT reasoning test. It measures a number of different skills such as critical reading, math problem solving, and writing. The test is important because it gives you feedback on your strengths and weaknesses, on college study skills, prepares you to take the SATs by allowing you to become familiar with the kinds of questions that will appear on the SAT, and also allows you to enter to receive scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. We will be hosting the PSATs here at Pencader the morning of Saturday, October 20th at 7:30 am, and will conclude the test at 10:30 am. The cost per student is $15, which should be turned in along with your full name to Mr. Townsend no later than Friday, September 21st. We will accept cash or checks, which should be made out to Pencader Charter High School. If you plan on taking the PSATs or have any questions please see Mr. Townsend as soon as possible.
The SAT Test is being offered year round, and can be registered for online. I have plenty of PSAT/SAT application and preparation materials in my office, located on the second floor next to Ms. Geesaman. Please feel free to come to me with any and all questions you may have regarding PSAT/SATs and college. Also, I will be scheduling an individual meeting with every Junior and Sophomore to discuss your interests in and progress towards your post-secondary education.
Thanks, and let’s all make this year even better than the last.
