What do teachers do during the summer? Many people think teachers don’t work during the summer. Here is a small sampling of what Pencader teachers are doing this summer.
This
summer I am taking two class at the University of Delaware, as I work toward my
"plus 15" on my Masters: "Understanding By Design" and "Internet Curriculum
Applications" I think (hope) that I'll get several ideas for next year from
these two classes.
Ray Arzinger
I am
participating in a 4 day mentoring workshop with Scott Green and Natalie Hyman
that will focus on differentiating instruction. I will also be attending a week
of AP Biology training so I can teach an AP course in the fall. I also have to
have the syllabus approved by the College Board.
Tammy Averell
I will
be doing my obligated time in the Coast Guard Reserve, and taking training on
the care of a newborn. Of course, I will be working on fine tuning my 9th
grade English curriculum. Don't have anything class wise scheduled until the
Fall (last ARTC course).
Rich Heebner
I'm
taking two ARTC courses this summer (9-4) Monday – Thursday. Then it's 3 down,
two to go. I'm also signing up and taking the Praxis II.
Sieanna Bucy
I will be traveling to
Spain with the first group of Pencader students taking a trip abroad. After I
recover from that, I will be taking AP Biology training with Ms. Averell. Of
course, I have to work my part time job over the summer as well.
Stephanie Yeager
I will be coaching
softball and grading papers for math summer school.
Kelly Quinn
I'm
going to Italy for a choir tour in Milan, Venice, Florence and Parma. It's with
the Wilmington Music School. I'd like to do a tour like this for Pencader but it
was hard getting 30 kids to go to New York for one night!
Paul Gray
I am
taking two classes this summer at University of Delaware: Effective Teaching
Strategies and Diversity in the Classroom.
Amanda Hughey
I am
taking one course (IF it is not already full as it has been in the past) on
Classroom Management and Discipline.
Anne MarieRyan
I'm
going to a bazillion professional development sessions around the globe; and
traveling to Spain. I will also be working Curriculum/pacing guides for Spanish
over the summer.
